Join us on July 2nd for another installment of The Kitchen Table with Tall Paul.
Tall Paul is a hip-hop artist, inspirational speaker, and arts-focused youth worker from South Minneapolis. Ojibwe and Oneida, his ancestral roots flow from the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in northern Minnesota and beyond. He believes hip-hop can be a tool for Native empowerment and healing, weaving personal narrative, cultural perspective, and historical reckoning into music that speaks to urban Native experiences and broader struggles for justice.
Tall Paul is one half of Native rap duo Red Poets Society, who have opened for major artists such as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Mobb Deep, and Jay Electronica. His acclaimed single Prayers in a Song is the first rap song to incorporate the Ojibwe language for more than sixty seconds, and remains a touchstone for conversations about cultural reclamation and identity. His 2022 album The Story of Jim Thorpe is a ten-track semi-biographical work that lyrically chronicles the life of Sac and Fox and Potawatomi legend Jim Thorpe, while laying bare this country's history of conquest, forced removal, and settler colonialism. He has performed, talked, and facilitated workshops across the world, from Minneapolis to Chemnitz, Germany.
Tall Paul earned his degree from the University of Minnesota, with a BA in American Indian Studies and a minor in Sociology. He is also a co-founder of Right to Remain, a collective of organizers and artists of various mediums using creative media to document and respond to immigration enforcement's impact on Native communities in Minnesota and throughout the U.S. He is a 2025 United States Artist Fellow, a 2025 Tiwahe Foundation Oyate Leadership Network Cohort Member, and a 2024 NDN Collective Abundance Fund Awardee.
